Carolyn's Diary - 'Life at GVI Fiji' - Week 5

Wed 28th Sept
Working on today with another volunteer and the sky clouded over and became really dark. We both said it would be amazing if it rained while we were here and it absolutely poured down! We excitedly ran around the village looking to see if our guttering was catching the rainwater and making it into the water tanks we’d installed over the last few weeks. Yasawa Bases 9, 10 and 11 all worked. It was such an awesome moment seeing all the volunteers hard work coming into fruition. AMAZING DAY!!

Fri 30th Sept
Woke up to the most spectacular sunset I’ve ever seen. The water is so calm, on the boat journey to school you could see right to the bottom of the ocean - amazing sea life and corals! Today the construction gang were looking forward to painting the first dorm at school, however a minor error bringing the wrong colour paint meant that we couldn’t. After a moment of disappointment we picked ourselves up and started to prep the second dorm instead..... after all Fiji is all about improvisation
