Carolyn’s Dairy - ‘Life at GVI Fiji’ - Week 4

Thurs 22nd Sept
5am wake up call and we hike up to the viewing deck in the dark, dodging the frogs, to watch the sunrise. None of us even got close to betting what time the orange glow would appear on the horizon - 6.03am to be precise. What an amazing site!
Today the construction crew are going to Ratu Meli with the teacher. A past volunteer, Sabrina, has raised funds for us to improve the school dorms. The task on hand today is prepping the first dorm - washing and sanding.
After a long hard day we arrive back on base to a broken generator, so no leccy or water tonight. Good job we are all off to the other side of the island for a farewell dinner with the departing volunteers. After a wonderful meal at Nanuya Resort we don our headtorches and hike back to camp singing (quite badly I may add) showtunes. It’s amazing we know so many lyrics!! A night of wine, kava and embarrassing stories finished us off.

Fri 23rd Sept
It’s always sad to see more volunteers/friends leacing, but as people leave it gives us all the opportunity to meet new people arriving......
