Welcome to GVI Fiji's Community Development Programme blog. Here you can keep up to date with our projects in Fiji.
GVI is a non-political, non-religious organisation, which through its alliance with over 150 project partners in over 30 countries, provides opportunities for volunteers to fill a critical void in the fields of environmental research, conservation, education and community development.
We were very excited on Tovuto Base last week when a brand new 5200Litre water tank was rolled onto base. The tank was purchased using charitable trust money raised by the Singapore American School and it will be installed next to one of the dormitories at Ratu Meli Memorial School for the pupils to use. The construction team will begin working on the installation next week.
We prepared our first ever meal using vegetables grown in our new garden at Tovuto Base last week. Esava, our Agriculture consultant, is seen proudly cradling the first batch of vegetables which included long beans and cucumbers.
The vegetable gardens at Ratu Meli School are growing rapidly! Four weeks after the first seeds were planted they are nearly ready to be harvested. The vegetables will then be used at the school to supplement the borders meals and help provide a more balanced diet
