The Annual Yasawa School Rugby and Netball Tournament

Last Saturday the GVI team along with the children and families of Tovuto base traveled to Yangeta Village for the annual Yasawa school Rugby and Netball tournament. All the schools in the Yasawas competed broken into four different age groups. Outstanding players were selected by a panel of judges to travel to the mainland to compete in further tournaments. Families from all over the Yasawa chain gathered for a full day of sport. The excitement and energy was intense as interschool and interisland rivalries were played out on the pitch. GVI volunteers cheered for the students of Ratu Meli School from the sidelines alongside teachers and parents. This family day out gave us all a true sense of the larger community that we are a part of. Though Naviti Island took home almost all the trophies - Betty of Tovuto Base, Daughter of boat driver Eddie has been selected to compete in netball on the mainland! All in all a unique and exciting day out with the people of the Yasawas.
