Government Ministers Visit Fiji Programs

On the 18th and 19th of July GVI Fiji's Programs in partnership with the Yasawa Trust Foundation were officially recognised by the Fijian Government. The Minister of Education, Minister of Agriculture, a Water Engineer from the Western Division Water Authority and The Western Division's District Officer travelled to Nacula Village to check out our progress. Ruth, District Officer for the Region, responded to what she saw with the following - 'the work GVI is doing is brilliant for the villages, I am happy when I think about the great things we can now do by working together'. The group visited four construction sites in Nacula and were impressed by the standard of installation, the improvements we have made to exisiting water systems, and the progress we have made with filtration. Overall we have added 35,000l water holding capacity in Nacula Village. The group spent time in the school watching the interaction between volunteers and students. The Minister of Education was impressed by the reports he received from the school headteacher and recognised the professionalism that volunteers demonstrated in the school. The visit was concluded with a kava session where representatives from the village, government, Yasawa Trust, and GVI all sat together united by the program and desire to enact positive change. We would like to thank all volunteers for the hard work that has taken us to this stage in the development of our programs. The group assessment that Expedition volunteers carried out in Nisisili Village to evaluate solutions to ongoing water problems has formed the basis of an official report that will help to raise funds for further infrastructure improvements!
